Why we build this

Feeding kids shouldn't feel like a fight

Food Replay exists because the tools families had for kids' nutrition were either lectures with a login screen, or trackers built for adults and their anxieties. We wanted a third thing: a game a child asks for, that a paediatric common-sense test would pass.

Our mission

Help children aged 5–13 build a warm, honest, lifelong relationship with food — by making healthy eating the most fun thing on their plate, and by refusing every dark pattern the games industry knows.

What we believe — quote us on this

A child cannot fail at eating. So Food Replay contains no guilt language, no streak-loss threats, no sibling comparisons, no calorie counts shown to children, and no red — the colour of blame — anywhere in the kid experience. Missed days pause progress; they never erase it. Sparks, our in-app currency, are never sold, never expire, and can't be removed by anyone. Parents cap play time, never earning. And after sunset the app dims into nightlight mode, because a good day should end quietly.

First principle, straight from our design system: "Never shame. Always invite."

The numbers we design by

  • 5–13 — the age range every screen is tested against; a five-year-old's imprecise tap defines our 60-point minimum touch targets.
  • 5 powers — protein, water, fiber, healthy fat, vitamins; each with its own colour and shape, so colour-blind kids read them too.
  • 4 seasonal worlds — Blossom Vale, Sunlit Reef, Amber Grove and Aurora Peaks; the home world repaints with the seasons so the app stays alive all year.
  • 0 — ads shown to children, ways to buy Sparks, red pixels in the kid app, and streak-loss warnings. These zeros are permanent.
  • 8pm — the hour after which confetti is banned. Celebrations are for daytime; evenings are for winding down.

Who makes Food Replay

Food Replay is built by a small product team of parents, designers and engineers who were tired of choosing between "educational and ignored" and "addictive and regretted." We design the app the way we'd want it aimed at our own kids — which is why the strictest rules in our design system are the emotional ones.

We're deliberate about expertise: our nutrition targets follow public paediatric dietary guidance, and our behaviour mechanics draw on the published research on children's eating — repeated gentle exposure, positive association, zero pressure. Where the app touches health conditions, it defers loudly to your paediatrician; Food Replay is a habit companion, not a medical device.
